Rejoice in the Rhythm of the Seasons! Seasonal Celebrations for Classrooms and Concerts
Underlying most authentic singing games and adult folksongs is the ebb and flow of rural rituals and ceremonies. These are closely tied to the rhythm of life as expressed in seasonal celebrations determined by the predictable planting and harvest calendar, by local community traditions, and by less predictable personal life events. These, and much more, are the context and substance of what Zoltán Kodály intended to convey by a thorough education through and into folksong. In this workshop, we will explore a wide variety of customs, celebrations and rituals and how they may be used in our school music programs.
Admission: Students free with OAKE student membership ($20); non-OAKE members: $70; OAKE members (3 workshop series - $70)
